Strawberries, raspberries and blackberries

We cultivate early-ripening varieties that have proven themselves through their outstanding fruit characteristics. The cultivation of soft fruit at our very windy location represents a challenge, but at the same time brings advantages. On the one hand, the healthy North Sea climate combined with the constant sea breeze ensures less pest pressure. On the other hand, there is always the danger of too much wind and rain for the sensitive plants.

Therefore, the strawberries, raspberries and blackberries grow in protected cultivation under the foil of moving tunnels. This form of cultivation protects the plants and fruits from extreme weather conditions such as rain, hail and intense sunlight and allows chemical fertilizers and pesticides to be dispensed with entirely. Natural predators (e.g. lacewings) are used against aphids and spider mites. Our most hard-working animal employees are the bumblebees for pollinating the flowers in spring.

The advantages of protected cultivation are:

  • The beginning of the strawberry season is earlier for us. The harvest goes from the beginning of May to September.

  • Raspberries are available from May to September.

  • Blackberries are available from late May to September.

  • The plants grow protected from extreme weather conditions.

  • We can harvest at any time, regardless of the weather.

  • The fruits have a better shelf life.
